Ferry Pass Middle School

Ferry Pass Middle School believes all students can learn and be successful in middle school.  Our purpose is to create a learning environment which will enable each student to understand that learning is a life long process.  The faculty is committed to providing rigorous academic courses that challenge students in order to prepare them for high school and college.

8th grade students and parents:

We want to remind everyone that state and district requirements mandate students to pass all middle school core subjects with a 60 average or better in order to go to the ninth grade.  That means that students must make at least a 60 average or better in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade courses or they will have to stay in middle school and retake any failed core courses.  The district does not plan on having summer, so that is not an option.  Therefore, it is important that your child pass core subjects or they will not be able to move on to high school.  Our school has a credit recovery program that allows students to attend the computer lab and make up failed credits during elective courses.  Students are placed in this program with 8th graders being the first priority.  If your 8th grade student has failed one or more of the core subject he/she will be placed in credit recovery program as space is available.

FPMS Reading Requirements

All FPMS students are expected to read at least 30 minutes each evening (chapter book is desired).  Some teachers require the student to fill out a log while others will take time to discuss the book with your student.  Research shows that 30 minutes of reading each day will automatically make a student a better reader.  The better a student can read the better their performance in all academic classes.
